A 5 minute walk from the Avan cemetery you will find the small, half ruined, St. Hovhannes chapel.
The chapel will greet you with a repaired khachkar and a half intact front western façade. As you get closer you will begin to see why this place is so remarkable!
This 4th-5th century chapel (repaired several times in the 12th-13th centuries) is simple in it's architectural design. Unfortunately like many other sites it was ruined in the 1679 earthquake.
