The historic village of Bjni in the Kotayk province was one of the prominent centers of education and culture of ancient and medieval Armenia. It is here in the center of the village you will find the St. Astvatsatsin Church. The church was built by Prince Grigor Magistros in year 1031 by the order of King Hovhannes Smbat and Catholicos Petros I Getadardz. Prince Grigor was from Bjni and was also a scholar of the time. The church is a domed hall with a round drum and an umbrella dome.
