Hidden at the bottom of the Hrazdan river gorge is the Karenis monastery. Dedicated to the evangelist St. Matthew and the apostle St. Andrew, it was built from the 6th-7th centuries. Connected from the west of the church is a vestibule of the 17th century. The church is a vaulted hall built from red polished tuff with an apse on the east
