The ancient city of Dvin was founded in 335AD by Khosrov II Kotak, son of Trdat III and was an important capital of early medieval Armenia. At its height the population was about 100,000 citizens making it one of the most populous and wealthiest cities east of Constantinople. Throughout the centuries its ownership changed hands several times.
